 \"Winter<\/a> <\/p>\n

It seems like ages ago now, but on New Year’s Day we headed to Vermont for a Winter ski getaway in Stowe. Skiing in the Northeast can always be a little icy, but I love going to Vermont for a Winter ski getaway because there’s so much natural beauty and always lots of good food. This was our fifth time to Stowe and we’ve also been to Okemo<\/a> which is charming. Although this trip to Stowe wasn’t my favorite since I wasn’t feeling well, we still enjoyed our time there and have a few recommendations to share. <\/p>\n

Where We Stayed<\/strong> 
\nWe have always stayed at Stowe Mountain Lodge, now called The Lodge at Spruce Peak<\/a>. However, there’s always been a lot lacking in service and consistency for the price and decided that although we’ll be back to Stowe, we’ll no longer stay there. Ther are plenty of other places to stay though I can’t recommend them because we’ve never been but I have my eye on two newer boutique hotels closer to downtown, Edson Hill<\/a> and Field Guide.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Winter<\/a><\/p>\n

Where We Ate 
\n<\/strong>Speaking of downtown, there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity and most are focused on local ingredients and also local beer. For a small ski town, the food in Stowe is some of the best I’ve had. A few of the restaurants we’ve loved so far: <\/p>\n

Cork Wine Bar<\/a>, the charcuterie board was epic, the wines unique and the atmosphere cozy yet lively. A must-go on a trip to Stowe. <\/p>\n

The Bench<\/a>, crowded and casual best describes this local hangout. This is the place to go for comfort food like wood-fired pizzas and indulgent dessert (I know this is a wellness blog, but you have to get the skillet cookie!). There are also plenty of vegetarian\/vegan options. Pro tip: Join the waitlist ahead of time. See the web site for how. <\/p>\n

Hen of the Wood<\/a>, out-of-the-way and upscale is the MO at this Waterbury eatery so expect to drive a little further to get there. The ingredients are foraged from just miles away and the menu changes daily. <\/p>\n

Also on our list to try: Idletyme Brewery<\/a>, Edson Hill<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Winter<\/a><\/p>\n

Where We Skiied 
\n<\/strong>Stowe is the mountain to ski which is why we’ve always stayed at Spruce Peak Lodge, to easily ski in and out. If you’re not staying on the mountain there’s plenty of parking so plan to drive there or try the shuttle<\/a>. There’s usually always guaranteed snow but like most Northeast skiing, it can be a little icy. <\/p>\n

Where We Shopped
\n<\/strong>Unlike Okemo, Stowe isn’t known for its shopping, but I love to stop at the roadside stands, including the Cabot Farmer’s Store<\/a>, on our way home to pick up local maple syrup, fresh apple cider and other provisions. Of course, no trip to Stowe is complete without a tour of the Ben & Jerry’s Factory<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During busier times like holiday weekends, restaurants and tours do fill up so try to plan ahead.<\/p>\n
